What We Do:Our Impact in Action
At Helping Heart Family Rwanda, we envision a future where every child and young person, regardless of background, is given the chance to live a life full of dignity, hope, and opportunity. Through our holistic approach rooted in compassion and justice, we implement impactful programs that uplift vulnerable communities especially children, youth, and young mothers. Our work is grounded in education, legal empowerment, youth mentorship, and drug prevention.
In our communities
Promoting Education Through the Tumurere Yige Program
Education is not a choice but a necessity. At Helping Heart Family Rwanda, we believe no child should be left behind. That is why we launched the Tumurere Yige Program, meaning “Let us raise them to learn.” This initiative provides educational support to children who are often forgotten: those from extremely poor families, orphans, and children we’ve rescued from life on the streets.
Through this program, we provide scholarships, school materials, uniforms, and mentorship to ensure that children have everything they need not just to attend school, but to thrive in it. We believe that learning is the foundation of lasting change education transforms lives and entire communities. To date, over 500 children have benefited from this program. Many of them, once exposed to vulnerability, are now confidently pursuing their dreams with our support.

Justice and Advocacy: Justice
Begins at Home
Begins at Home
Our work in justice and legal advocacy stems from the belief that justice must begin within families and communities. Through our legal department, we run the program Ubutabera Butangirira mu Muryango, which translates to “Justice Begins at Home.” This initiative promotes awareness and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), especially as it affects children, women, and marginalized groups.
We conduct community-based outreach through local leaders, school programs, and community forums to help people understand the devastating effects of GBV, how to prevent it, and how to safely report abuse. By educating the public on legal rights and responsibilities including laws governing persons and families, land ownership, and GBV we empower citizens to act before violence occurs.
One of the key focuses of this program is supporting teen mothers. Many of them are victims of abuse or early pregnancies without support systems. We help them access justice, rebuild their mental and emotional health, return to school, or start small businesses. So far, over 50 young mothers have regained hope and direction through this initiative.
In addition, we use community gatherings known as Inteko z’Abaturage as a platform for public legal education. These sessions allow citizens to better understand their rights and responsibilities under Rwandan law, resolve disputes amicably, and build a culture of legal literacy. To date, more than 26,000 people have directly benefited from our legal and advocacy efforts.
Mentorship and Youth Empowerment
At the heart of our mission lies a deep belief in the power of youth to create lasting change. Through structured mentorship programs and community-driven projects, we nurture young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to take charge of their future.
Our mentorship initiatives focus on guiding vulnerable and ambitious youth through personal development, academic growth, and leadership training. We connect them with mentors, organize youth dialogues, and run life skills workshops that cover everything from reproductive health and gender equality to entrepreneurship and advocacy. Whether they are students, survivors of abuse, or young leaders in the making, we help youth become agents of change in their own communities.
We are raising a generation that is not only educated but also responsible, visionary, and ready to uplift others.
Drug Prevention and Reintegration:
Your Future Is Bright—Don’t Dim It
with Drugs
Your Future Is Bright—Don’t Dim It
with Drugs
Drug abuse continues to harm the potential of countless young people across Rwanda. In response, Helping Heart Family Rwanda developed a prevention and reintegration campaign under the banner: “Your Future Is Bright – Don’t Dim It with Drugs.”
This program carries a simple but powerful message: Say no to drugs. We raise awareness in schools, neighborhoods, and community centers through creative outreach, art, and testimonies. Our goal is to prevent drug use before it begins by helping youth understand the consequences and make empowered decisions.
But our work doesn’t stop at prevention. Through our Pathways Resilience: Beyond Rehab project, we support young people who are coming out of rehabilitation centers and seeking a second chance. We help them rebuild their lives through counseling, life coaching, skills training, and small-scale entrepreneurship support. We also work with families and communities to create an environment of acceptance and opportunity for these youth as they reintegrate.
This program is a testament to our belief that recovery is possible, and that every young person has the potential to rise above their past.
